On September 26, Typhoon Ondoy (international name Ketsana) hit the Philippines leaving many parts of Metro Manila including Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City severely damaged. Flood waters rose to as high as two-storey buildings, destroying millions worth of property.
People has nowhere to go other than the roofs
In Barangay Tatalon, what the flood did not destroy. the fire did. Amidst heavy rains and flooding, a fire added devastation to the community leaving 553 families homeless and 8 dead. Obviously, no one is prepared how to deal with fire during flooding as firefighters struggle to enter the community and suppress the fire in a chest deep floodwater. Adding to the danger is a live wire in the water.
Day after the fire, while most people are shoveling mud from their homes, fire victims are shoveling wet ashes and charred wood from what is left from their homes.
Inner City Development Cooperative (ICDC) is founded by Zeny De Jesus and seeks to replicate the success achieved by the savings and loan fund by helping the small entrepreneurs increase their income capabilities, enabling families improve their quality of life and helping them deal with their own problems by becoming a productive and caring community.
